Wound Care
Caring for wounds is not just a matter of healing, it is about preserving quality of life, especially for those living with diabetes. When left unattended or improperly treated, wounds can escalate into serious health complications, potentially leading to infections or even amputations. As a diabetic, your body may take longer than usual to heal wounds, making proper care even more crucial.
This is where our team of orthopedic physicians and supportive orthopedic providers, with a wealth of experience and compassion, step in. Our wound care services, led by Dr. Lombardo and Dr. Boberg, provide our patients with dedicated and patient-centered care they can feel confident in. At Advanced Bone & Joint, both you and your comfort are important to us, and we are here to ensure that every wound gets the attention it deserves.
At our orthopedic walk-in clinic, we offer comprehensive and compassionate wound care, tailored to each individual's unique needs. Whether you are dealing with an acute wound from a recent injury, or grappling with a stubborn wound that refuses to heal, our team of dedicated professionals is ready to assist and provide you with the best possible orthopedic experience.
Comprehensive Diabetic Foot Care
Diabetic foot care is a vital part of managing diabetes. It is not just about your feet, but about ensuring your overall health and wellness. Diabetes can often affect blood flow and cause neuropathy, or numbness and tingling in the feet and toes. This neuropathy can lead to foot problems that, if left untreated, can escalate into serious complications, such as ulcers or wounds that will not heal properly or even tissue death. This is where the expertise of a podiatrist or an orthopedic foot surgeon becomes crucial. Our dedicated and compassionate team is here to provide you with the utmost care and attention, ensuring you feel comfortable, confident, and important throughout each step of your diabetic foot care journey.
The importance of proper diabetic foot care cannot be overstated. It is not just about preventing discomfort or pain, it is about preventing potentially life-altering complications. By regularly seeing our dedicated orthopedic specialists, you are taking an active role in your health management. We can help you keep your feet healthy, spot issues before they become serious, and provide effective treatments when needed. Remember, your health journey is important to us, and we are here to stand by your side through every step of your treatment to ensure the best possible orthopedic experience.
Negative Pressure Wound Therapy
At Advanced Bone & Joint, we understand the unique challenges that diabetic patients face when it comes to wound healing. That is why we are proud to offer advanced negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) for our diabetic patients at each of our O'Fallon, Wentzville, and St. Peters locations.
This innovative treatment method has been shown to significantly improve the healing process, reducing the risk of complications and enhancing overall wellness. In NPWT, a wound is covered with an airtight vacuum dressing connected to a pump. Negative pressure is then applied, which helps to pull and remove fluid from inside the wound and stimulate blood flow to the area to help the wound close and heal properly.
If NPWT or other conservative wound treatments are not successful, foot surgery with our expert orthopedic foot surgeon, including skin grafts, may be recommended.
Additional Wound Care Services
In addition to diabetic foot care, our dedicated and caring orthopedic professionals are happy to provide comprehensive wound care for those suffering from acute injuries, including:
- Burns
- Cuts and lacerations
- Sores and ulcers
